Longview Snow (2009)

It’s only four days into 2009 and it is snowing again.  There isn’t much coming down right now.  But it is snowing.  My wife and I like it.  Our son the college student isn’t very happy about it.  Something about having to drive back to Wazzu in the snow in a couple of days …

Longview’s Unusual Snow (2008) – Wrap Up

It’s New Year’s Day 2009 and there are still remnants of the unusual snow of December 2008 in my front yard.  Granted, the remnants are just piles of ice that were shoveled out of the driveway.  They persist nonetheless.  That’s 16 days by my count (December 17, 2008 through January 1, 2009).  Most areas of Longivew proper have been devoid of snow for several days.  Most of what remains is piles of snow scraped off pavement … like I have.

We had up to 12 inches of snow on the ground here at the house at one point.  I’m sure that broke some sort of record for the area.  Longview doesn’t have an official mechanism for tracking snow depth.

Longview’s Unusual Snow (2008)

A few days back I posted a, slightly, sarcastic entry about “Longview’s Annual Snow (2008).”  Since then it has actually snowed.  The depth is rather substantial for Longview.  Pictures are taken out the front window and the back sliding glass door.  They show the progression from virtually nothing to the 8 inches or so that we have right now.  All the pictures were taken with the iPhone.

Longview’s Annual Snow (2008)

Well, it’s finally “snowing” here in Longview, Washington.  If you call a few small flakes swirling about in the wind “snow.”  As I write this and watch the snow out the window it is actually starting to turn some surfaces white.  To be fair though, the house is down in the valley and many of the hills around here have received several inches of snow.

I’ll be surprised if we get any sort of accumulation here as we usually don’t.  Every couple of years we get a couple of inches of snow that stay for up to a couple of days.
